The Provincial Library develops the legislative and policy framework for the operations of the Saskatchewan public library system and the Multitype Library Board. It administers grants, provides province-wide library policies, maintains an electronic library information network, including the Single Integrated Library System and coordinates resource sharing activities such as interlibrary loans, virtual reference, databases and multilingual services.
The Literacy Office raises public awareness of the importance of literacy and works with communities to coordinate a provincial approach to basic literacy and essential skills development for learners of all ages. Initiatives include the SaskSmart Innovations Fund that provides support for community literacy initiatives and the development of Family Literacy hubs province-wide. The Literacy Office also works across government to link literacy strategies in all ministries.
