A.  INTRODUCTION

Promoting and supporting physical activity is a responsibility shared among families, schools, community organizations, and government/non-government agencies.  Schools serve an important role in engaging the children and youth of Saskatchewan in healthy levels of physical activity in support of lifelong active living.

The Government of Saskatchewan is committed to working with school boards to ensure that children and youth engage in 30 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity daily.  It is recognized that this can be achieved as part of the overall goal of 90 minutes of daily physical activity completed at home, at school, and in the community.

A physical activity policy does not replace a quality physical education program; in fact, regular life-long physical activity is dependant on a quality physical education program.  The focus of this physical activity policy is to encourage school divisions to promote and encourage this health enhancing behaviour in all areas of school life.
