Mandate of the Educational Relations Board

The Educational Relations Board is established pursuant to s.241 of The Education Act, 1005.  The primary duties and responsibilities of the Board are to:

a.  appoint mediators to assist the parties in contract negotiations;
b.  establish boards of conciliation when requested or where deemed appropriate by the Board, following consultaiton with the parties;
c.  appoint the chairpersons of arbitration boards where the nominees cannot agree; and
d.  hear and determine applications from school divisions to designate persons as out of scope of the Saskatchewan Teachers' Federation.

Board Membership

The Educational Relations Board is composed of two persons nominated by the Saskatchewan Teachers' Federation and two persons nominated by the Saskatchewan School Boards Association.  These four representatives nominate a fifth person as the chairperson.  The nominees are appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council.

The current membership of the Educational Relations Board is:

• John Hobbs, Q.C. - Chairperson (term expires October 9, 2012)
• Fred Herron - Teacher Representative and Vice Chairperson (term expires December 10, 2012)
• Diane Humenick - Teacher Representative (term expires March 1, 2014)
• Dale West - Trustee Representative (term expires June 10, 2013)
• Connie Bailey - Trustee Representative (term expires March 1, 2014)

Meetings

The Board meets on a scheduled basis approximately four times a year.  It also holds special meetings as required.
